How to correctly modify car wheels?
Dec 01, 2023

The size of the wheel cannot be changed casually.
Some people will enlarge the wheels in order to improve the performance of the car. When selecting wheels, try to choose wheels that are similar to size of the original car, because enlarging the wheels must match the wide and flat tires. The lateral swing of the car will be smaller, and the stability will be reduced. It has been improved, but the flatter the tire is, the thinner its thickness is, and the shock absorption performance will be poor, so a greater sacrifice must be made in terms of comfort. When roadblocks such as sand and gravel appear, the tires are easily damaged, so enlarging the wheels requires careful consideration.
As one of the most important safety components of a car, there is still a lot of knowledge involved in wheel hub style modification, and it still requires professional evaluation and operation.
1. The wheel material is exquisite
The overall appearance of the wheels depends on each person's aesthetics and is selected to match the original car modification. The aluminum alloy wheels that are currently more popular on the market have been greatly improved compared to the cast iron wheels in the past, and their weight has been greatly reduced. Wheels with complex structures do look beautiful and classy, but they are too troublesome to clean. On the contrary, simple wheels look dynamic.
From the current point of view, most of the original wheel hubs are aluminum alloy wheels using low-pressure casting technology. Lower-end models may be equipped with steel rims from the original factory. Based on the comparative understanding of materials, we know that the steel ring process is simple and the cost is low. However, it is heavier, has large inertial resistance, and has poor heat dissipation. Its roundness and shock absorption are worse than those of aluminum alloy wheels, and the overall control feeling is also worse than that of aluminum alloy wheels.
In addition to the above differences, there are also materials similar to our high-end aerospace materials, which are also unique in the industry. Whether it is rigidity, toughness, or lightweight, the unique materials have doubled the performance of the wheel hub, which is different from traditional Cones. Compared with previous castings, the new versions not only feature innovations in materials and processes but also show improvements in performance and weight.
2. The wheel craftsmanship is exquisite
The same material and manufacturing process are also important aspects that determine the quality of the wheel hub. Wheel hubs are also made of aluminum alloy, and because the process is divided into "casting" and "forging", due to the huge difference in process, there is also a greater difference in quality and performance.
Forged wheels are much better than cast wheels in terms of craftsmanship and material requirements, and they also have stronger impact resistance. But at the same time, the price is much higher than that of cast aluminum alloy wheels, and in terms of shape, mass manufacturing is also restricted.
3. Parameters are particular
When selecting a wheel, the PCD/bolt pattern and center hole size/offset must be suitable for the vehicle model. When choosing your favorite wheel hub appearance, you must consider whether these three points are appropriate.
