The difference between forged wheels and cast wheels

May 19, 2021

1. The weight of the wheel is different.

The forged wheels are made by high-strength forging, and the weight of the forged wheels is lighter under the same size and the same style. The appearance of some cast wheels imitates the characteristics of forging.

In this way, it is difficult for ordinary consumers to distinguish, but the two are quite different in metal properties. Forged wheels have higher fatigue resistance, impact resistance, and strength than cast wheels.

There is not much difference between the two in terms of heat dissipation. However, cast wheels with a qualified quality are generally about 20% heavier than forged wheels.

2. Different styles and types.

The two-piece and three-piece forged wheels are generally combined by rivets or welding (argon welding). Generally, the colors of the rim and the spokes are obviously different. It can be easily seen that the cast wheels are formed at one time and have no color difference. (This method is not necessarily applicable to all, because forged wheels also have a one-piece type.)

3. Different percussion echoes.

The percussion method uses a small metal rod to strike the hub. The echo from the forged hub is crisp and melodious, and the echo from the cast hub is dull and low.
