What are forged wheels made of?

Forged wheels are primarily made from solid blocks (billets) of aerospace-grade aluminum alloys, most commonly 6061-T6. In some high-performance motorsport, exotic, or racing applications, they can also be crafted from magnesium alloys.
These metals undergo an intense manufacturing process rather than being poured into a mold:
The Process: A solid piece of metal is heated and subjected to extreme hydraulic pressure (often 8,000 to 10,000 tons) to compress it into the general shape of a wheel.
The Result: This process aligns and refines the metal's grain structure. This results in a final product that is significantly stronger, stiffer, and about 25% lighter than traditional cast wheels.
Finalizing the Design: The pressed metal blank is then placed into a CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machine to be precisely carved into its final, intricate design.
