BMW Boosts Recycling in Circular Economy Bid
Jun 09, 2023
BMW is increasing its efforts to promote a circular economy by boosting its recycling of materials and reducing waste. The automaker has set a goal of using 100 percent recycled materials in its vehicle production by 2025 and is investing in innovative technologies such as 3D printing and robotics to help achieve this.
BMW is also working with partners to create closed material cycles, where materials such as plastics, aluminium, and steel are used, recycled, and then reused in new products. The company has already introduced closed material cycles for some of its production processes, such as the production of carbon fibre reinforced plastics for the BMW i3.
In addition, BMW is creating new business models that focus on sustainably managing resources and reducing waste, such as car-sharing and car-subscription services. These services allow customers to share or rent vehicles rather than owning them outright, reducing the overall number of vehicles on the road and the resulting emissions and waste from manufacturing and disposal.
Overall, BMW's efforts to promote a circular economy demonstrate the company's commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.
