Do You Know The Origin Of The Chinese National Day?
Oct 01, 2022
The term "National Day" originally refers to a national celebration, which was first seen in the Western Jin Dynasty. Lu Ji, a writer in the Western Jin Dynasty, once recorded in the article "On the Five Classes of Princes" that "National Day alone enjoys its benefits, and the main advantages do not harm them". In ancient my country, the emperor's enthronement and birthday were called "National Day". Today in my country, National Day refers specifically to October 1, when the People's Republic of China was officially proclaimed.

October 1, 1949, is the anniversary of the founding of New China. In many people's minds, on October 1, 1949, the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China, attended by hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians, was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. In fact, this impression in people's minds is not accurate. Because the ceremony held in Tiananmen Square on October 1, 1949, was the founding ceremony of the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China, not the founding ceremony. In fact, the "founding" of the People's Republic of China, that is, the founding of the People's Republic of China, was announced a week before October 1 of that year. At that time, it was not called the "Founding Ceremony", but the "Founding Ceremony". The date is September 21, 1949. On this day, Mao Zedong, director of the Preparatory Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, announced the birth of the new China in his opening speech at the first session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
The first person to propose "National Day" was Ma Xulun, then a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chief representative of the Democratic Progressive Party. On October 9, 1949, Ma Xulun asked Xu Guangping at the first meeting of the First National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference: "The founding of the People's Republic of China should have a National Day, so I hope that this Council will decide to make October 1. It's National Day."
On December 2, 1949, the resolution passed by the fourth meeting of the Central People's Government Committee stated: "The Central People's Government Committee hereby declares that starting from 1950, that is, on October 1 every year, the great day is the National Day of the People's Republic of China."
This is the origin of "National Day", which is now our National Day.
