Mitsubishi Motors Joins Honda-Nissan Alliance, Forming Two Camps With Japan's Major Domestic Manufacturer Toyota

Jul 29, 2024

It was learned on the 28th that Mitsubishi Motors will also join the cooperation in electric vehicles (EV) and other fields that Honda and Nissan Motor are negotiating.

If realized, Japan's large domestic automobile companies will be a group centered on Toyota Motor, as well as two major camps: Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi Motors.

As the business environment changes rapidly due to EV adoption and other factors, companies have accelerated the pace of cooperation to survive.

Honda and Nissan are considering standardizing electric vehicle software and core components. Specific details of the collaboration are expected to be announced this summer, with Mitsubishi Motors also hoping to join the framework. The company is also likely to leverage its strengths in plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) and pickup trucks to partner with the two companies.
