Nissan Japan Will Lay Off Another 10,000 Employees, Or 15% Of Its Workforce, For A Total Of 20,000.
May 13, 2025
Financially troubled Nissan Motor Co. has decided to lay off another 10,000 workers at home and abroad. The company has already announced plans to lay off 9,000 employees, which will bring the total number of people affected to about 20,000, or 15 percent of its total workforce. An announcement is expected soon.
Nissan expects a net loss of up to 750 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2025, which would be the company's biggest loss ever. Last November, the company announced it would lay off 9,000 employees and cut 20 percent of its production capacity in Japan and abroad.
The new team, led by President Ivan Espinosa, who took office on April 1, reviewed the restructuring plan and decided that further cuts were necessary, according to sources.
