1, Observing the texture of the craftsmanship (most intuitive, no need for tools)


1. Forged wheel 

How Does Wheel Size Impact Handling and Braking?
There are CNC cutting patterns on the back and inside of the spokes: a circle of uniform and fine tool marks, with straight and regular lines;
The overall structure is milled from solid aluminum blocks, and the back wall thickness of the spokes is uniform, clean, and free of rough protrusions;
Complex fine spokes, double-layer hollow out, and large curved surface fine shapes can only be forged.
2. Casting wheel 

Determine whether the bearing can be reused
On the back, there are traces of mold pouring: the surface is rough, with concave and convex flow patterns, and a closed mold line (a circle of raised seams);
There will be thick "reinforcement lumps" at the base of the spokes, which need to be thickened during casting to prevent breakage and make the shape bulky;
It is difficult to make slender hollow spokes, as spokes are generally thick and heavy.

2, Weighing comparison (accurate differentiation)

Under the same size and ET/load standard:
-Forging: 15% to 30% lighter than casting
Example: 19 inch Alphard wheels, cast at approximately 12.5kg/piece, forged at only 8.5-10kg/piece; The forging on the handle is noticeably lighter.

3, Check the logo engraving (mandatory for original/compliant wheels)

Forged wheel engraving keywords
Clear engraving on the back: FORGED, 6061-T6, forging, T6 heat treatment
6061 aluminum alloy is a forging specific aluminum material that requires high-temperature forging and quenching strengthening.

Casting wheel hub engraving keywords
Back engraving: CAST, low pressure casting Gravity Cast,A356
A356 is a casting specific aluminum water alloy and cannot be forged.

4, Listen to the sound of knocking (simple non-destructive testing)

Lightly tap the center position of the spoke with a metal key:
-Forging: Metal molecules are dense, with a crisp, high pitched sound and long echo (similar to tapping solid steel pipes);
-Casting: There are small pores and looseness inside, and the sound is dull, hoarse, and the echo is short (the cloudy sound of knocking on hollow aluminum tubes).

5, Damage/repair features (distinguishing damage at a glance)

1. Casting wheel 
Easy to deform as a whole, crack at the root of the spokes, and have a loose and porous cross-section after impact;
There is a high probability that the large pit/curb will be directly scrapped after impact, and it is prone to secondary cracking after repair.
2. Forged wheel 
High toughness and strength, slight impact will only cause minor scratches, making it difficult to break;
Severe impact can cause minimal deformation, and the metal cross-section is delicate without pores. After repair, the durability is much higher than that of casting.
