What's the difference of the magnesium alloy wheels and forged wheels?

Apr 01, 2026

Core difference

Magnesium alloy wheels: Refers to wheels made of magnesium alloy as raw material, emphasizing material properties.
Forged wheel hub: refers to a wheel hub made through forging process (whether using aluminum, magnesium or other metals), emphasizing the manufacturing process.

Performance data reference
1) Magnesium alloy wheels:
Density: 1.8 g/cm ³ (approximately 2.7 g/cm ³ for aluminum alloy)
Weight reduction effect: Over 30% lighter than aluminum alloy and 50% lighter than steel wheel hubs of the same size
Range improvement of new energy vehicles: for every 1kg reduction, approximately 5-8km of range is increased

2)Forged wheel (taking aluminum alloy as an example):
Tensile strength: up to 380MPa (ZL203 alloy)
Elongation rate: 12% -17%, significantly higher than that of castings
Surface roughness: 0.8-1.6 μ m, close to mirror finish
