Shipping Companies Collectively Raised Freight Rates in May

Maersk, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, and ONE raise freight rates in May!
Affected by the current fluctuations in the shipping market, Maersk, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, and ONE have successively announced the collection of relevant surcharges, involving routes such as the Far East to North America and Asia to the Mediterranean.
Maersk
From May 15, Maersk will adjust the peak season surcharge (PSS) from the Far East (excluding mainland China and Hong Kong, China) to North America.

Specifically, the company charges for goods from Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, Taiwan, Vietnam to the United States and Canada.
The charging standard is US$1,000/TEU and US$2,000/FEU.
CMA CGM
From May 1, the Mediterranean region was designated as an Emission Control Area (ECA) by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and stricter control measures will be implemented to limit sulfur emissions from ships operating in the area.
To this end, CMA CGM will charge a Low Sulfur Surcharge for all cargoes passing through the Mediterranean Emission Control Area.

Starting from April 21, CMA CGM will charge a surcharge of US$20/TEU for cargo from Asia to the Mediterranean region; starting from May 1, a surcharge of US$10/TEU will be charged for cargo from the Mediterranean region to Asia, the Middle East, and the Red Sea region.
In addition, starting from April 15, CMA CGM will charge an overweight surcharge (OWS) for cargo from the Far East to Northern Europe. The scope of the charge is 20-foot dry containers with a gross weight of more than 20 tons, and the charge standard is US$400/container.

Starting from April 15, CMA CGM will charge a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo from China (including Hong Kong and Macao) to West and Central Africa (excluding Nigeria).

The charge is USD 150/TEU, for dry containers only, and applies to short-term contracts.
Hapag-Lloyd
From May 12, Hapag-Lloyd will charge a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) from East Asia to North America.

East Asia includes: Japan, South Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, and the Philippines; North America includes the United States and Canada.
The charging standard is: US$1,000/TEU, US$2,000/FEU.
In addition, starting from May 1, Hapag-Lloyd raised the General Rate Increase Surcharge (GRI) from Asia to Latin America, of which Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be implemented from May 19.

Asia includes: Mainland China, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, and Brunei.
The West Coast of South America, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean include: Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The East Coast of South America includes Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay.
Charges are: USD 500/TEU, USD 1,000/FEU.
ONE
Starting May 7, ONE will charge a Low Sulphur Mediterranean Outport (MEO) surcharge to comply with the latest environmental regulations.

The new charges apply to all ONE routes and are at a rate of USD 50 per TEU.
